Student Spotlight September – KEITH

Don't wait to get fit to have fun!

Student Spotlight September – KEITH

Why did you decide to start pole/aerial?

I started pole dancing because my ex used to do it and she’d always be doing urban pole at the park. I thought it was fun and looked awesome to be able to do things like that, along with it being good for fitness.

Did you do any other dancing/fitness before starting pole/aerial?
I’d never done any dancing at all before I started pole and the only other fitness that I used to do was the odd bit of running and a bit of cycling too.

How long have you been taking part in classes at Tempest?
One of the oldest photos that I have, that was taken at Tempest, was dated the 4th October 2014. I’m not too sure if that was my first class or second, but it was definitely the end of September/October in 2014 that I started to take classes.

What has kept you interested in pole/aerial?
For me, it was the fact that no matter what level you are, there’s always something that you can learn and work on. Challenging myself is always something that kept me interested, as I’d keep trying and trying until I get a move or a combination.

What is your biggest Pole/Aerial achievement?
I think it was probably when I eventually managed to do a handspring, as I’d tried for ages and ages and it was just down to a simple technique change and I nailed it

What do you like best about Tempest Studio?
I like that everyone is so friendly and I’ve met so many new people over the years and made some awesome memories with everyone at classes and nights out, or nights in the studio.

What is your favourite move? I always love a good pencil/ayesha as it’s kind of a show off move that I can do with ease. That and Batman, as it looks awesome and it’s very easy.

What is your nemesis move?
Anything bendy!

What advice would you give to new students?
When you’re learning moves, try your best to do both sides and never give up. People learn different things at different times. Someone like me might be able to do an Ayesha with ease, but then I’ll struggle with a simple move which everyone else can get.

How have you changed since joining #TeamTempest?
I have developed myself as a person a hell of a lot since joining #TeamTempest, in that it’s helped my body confidence and also improved my shyness and social skills. The improved core strength and overall strength is a bonus too ha!
